And I Thought She was Lying...

Since my brother has come into town I have moved over to my Gramma's house to sleep.   My gramma, the seasoned Weight Watcher Lifetime Member, and I were having a conversation yesterday about problem foods.

My Gramma has got to be the healthiest person I know.  She watchers what she eats, golfs once a week, and stays pretty active for the ripe old age of 91.  She confessed that she has a chocolate fetish.  I didn't believe her because I have never seen any chocolate around her house?  She started naming off all of the places she hid chocolate, and all of a sudden chocolate came out of the woodwork.

This is just what I found in the freezer:

Chocolate kisses, Hershey's Bliss, Ghirardelli Caramel Squares, Tupperware of frozen cookies, cinnamon bears, Jelly Bellies (a gramma's house staple. Oh, I also made that nifty dish), and two bags of frozen Rolo's.  This was everything I found in the house freezer.  Don't get me started on the deep freezer in the garage.

Apparently Gramma's secret is out.  She fooled us so well.  She was watching TV the whole time I was rummaging through her fridge, and she has no idea.  Wheel of fortune is extremely captivating.

Since I have found this discovery I have been itching for some sweets.  I'm trying to keep it to a minimum.  I can't wait to get back home where I can re-focus.  Next weeks weigh in should be interesting.

Do you hide candy and forget about it?
NEVER!  I can't keep candy in my house at all!  It would be all I could think about until I had eaten it all.

What is your sweet fetish?
I love cherry flavored anything!  Swedish fish, cherry sours, etc.  And keep me away from the bulk candy aisle, I could make a serious dent out of my bank account.

Health or Vanity?

I recently had a conversation with someone where again, a light bulb turned on over my head.  How many people out there are losing weight for health reason's, and how many for vanity?  I'm not going to lie, I would really love to fit into cute little dresses and feel more "put together" than, "this fits, I don't feel very pretty, but it fits".  I would love to look in the mirror and think about how "sassy my high heals make me look" and not, "I look like fat girl wearing sassy heals".

I feel that my main reason for wanting to lose weight is for health reason's.  In my very own opinion I could care less about being "thin" and having people think of me as "thin".  I want to look healthy, and toned.  But most of all I want to FEEL the feeling that healthy is.

I remember the feeling I use to get after a good run, I have dreams of it (weird, right?).  My lungs moving in and out, it rushes oxygen to ever space in my body.  Then the dream gets kind of crazy and I start jumping really high (I know, nothing to do with it).  Finally I have the let down that its a dream and wake up.

There will always be a little part of me that wants to look in the mirror and see a svelte stunner in a little black dress, but I will not lose sight of the "healthy" overall goal I have.

Why do you do it?  Health or Vanity?

Weigh-in & Single Parenting...

Today's weigh in was 273.8!  That is a 1.6 pound weight loss, which is not too shabby considering it was a holiday and I'm on vacation.

I'm pretty sure that lack of sleep is showing on my weight loss.  Hanna has gotten worse at sleeping day by day since we've been in Utah.  Last night in the middle of the night she decided she didn't want to sleep from 1:30 to 4:30.  I am so thankful for the time that I've been able to spend with family, but I am excited to get home next week so that I can get back on schedule and really focus on my goals.  I AM SO CLOSE TO 10 POUNDS....ARGH!

Now its honesty time.  I totally broke down this morning after my weigh in.  I think the last week and a half of no sleep and not seeing my husband all came crashing around me and I sat in the bathroom and had a pity party for myself.  I hate crying, and it was like the ugly crying where I couldn't even look at myself in the mirror because I probably would have started laughing from the ugliness of it.  How ironic.

Anyway, I had to give myself a little pep talk so that I could make it through the day I talked to my hub's and begged him to come on Thursday so that I could have a break from single parenting.  Shockingly, he told me that he was already planning on coming down and that he was going to surprise me, but of course I am pretty much losing it right now so I wasn't taking "no" for an answer.  He can never surprise me because I pester him so much he finally just tells me to get me off his back.

My mood has instantly changed since I got this bit of information and Thursday night can't come fast enough.  Pray that my Hanna sleeps tonight and I can get a decent nights sleep.  Fingers crossed.

When is the last time you had a good cry?
Today, and before that it was right after I had Hanna......stupid hormones.

What instantly puts you in a good mood?
My Husband & Ice Cream (frozen yogurt these days).

Fourth of July Fun!

Our 4th started on the 2nd with some family firework fun!

Brothers + Fireworks = Keep fire extinguisher on hand.

After a relaxing Sunday we had a continuation of celebration starting with the "Provo City Art Festival"

I got to spend some time with My mom, brother Tyler, and sister-in-law Angela. It was over cast so it made the heat a little more bearable. It was a good 92 degrees. I also got a cute dress and bracelet for Hanna.

She didn't seem to care.

Later on we got to go to my cousin Shauna's house and had a cook out with my extended family. Of course, Hanna was so tired she wouldn't let me put her down and I didn't get any pictures :(

Cook outs are hard.  There was a lot of food including chips, dips, desserts, & drinks.  The one thing that was missing........FRUIT!?!?!??!?!  I couldn't believe that there wasn't any fruit!  Granted, my family was in charge of bringing salads so it was our own fault.  This lead to dipping into the dessert a little, but all in all I ate waaaaaaaaaay less than I normally would.  I feel good about that.  We'll see what happens at the weigh in tomorrow!

What did you do for the fourth?

Was there anything you regret eating?
I could have probably eaten one less cookie square, but I have to remember that I have 49 anytime points that I can use throughout the week, and that's what they're there for.

Recouping Sunday

Today should be a lazy day.  A great time to get Hanna caught up on sleep by actually taking naps that do not involve a car seat.

It is also a good time to get back on track.  Sunday is a family day for me.  I stay home and spend time with the people I love.  I also eat at home all day long, so this is the perfect time to track my food and get myself back on track.  Maybe I can come up with a plan of attack for the rest of my week, I mean, I WILL come up with a plan to stay on track for the next week.

Things I will stick to this week:

1.  I will go to my weigh in on Wednesday no matter how unsure I feel about losing.  You have to take the good with the bad.  Right now I don't think I've gained, but my days have been lacking any structure so I never know.

2.  I will drink at least 3 Nalgenes of water a day. That's 96 ounces. I have heard (please tell me if you know this to be true)  that you should drink half of your weight in ounces of water a day.  Really that would mean I should be drinking around 140 oz's a day.  That's like FIVE Nalgenes!  I've been carting my water bottle  everywhere and still seem to only be able to drink 2 (at home I drink like 4).  Suggestions?

3. Opt for fruit.  I LOVE July, it seems like all fruits are in season.  Especially watermelons and cantaloupes.  I'm pretty sure I've ate melon everyday this last week.

4. Hold the bun.  There will be a lot of barbecuing going on this next week and so I will be picky about my meat products and I won't eat the bun to save on calories.  I have a bit of a wheat allergy so I have to be careful about the kinds of bread I eat.  I should probably be more careful about this, I think it would help the weight come off.  I'm just not ready to cut it out yet.

5. Salad, Salad, & more Salad.  Green is good.  My family always has green salad at cook outs and so I will load up on the greens.

6.  Walk it off.  The other great thing about this time of year is festival's!  Utah has one of the best 4th of July celebrations around so I will be doing a lot of walking to get some activity points in.

7.  Quit worrying & enjoy time with family.  Most importantly I will enjoy spending time with my immediate and extended family.  This is one of the only times of year that I get to see most of my extended family and so food should really be the last thing on my mind.

There are my goals for the next week.  Initially I was going to do 10 but 7 seemed to be the perfect amount.  I don't want to set any strict unattainable goals on a holiday week. That is just a set up for failure.

Happy Fourth of July peep's!

What are your plans for the 4th?

How much water do you usually drink in a day?

Too Busy to Eat!

I have had a VERY busy last couple of days.  Maybe its because I don't really go a lot of places.  When you have to pack 5 bags for a baby just to go to a family members home, it gets tiring from the get-go.  You're so busy planning on what kind of food you're going to bring for baby that you forget to plan for yourself.

I will totally admit that I had "Five Guy Burger"  last night for dinner.  This is one of my biggest challenges: Eating well while eating out.  I try and plan telling myself that I will eat the healthiest thing on the menu and then boom, I see the thought of a bacon cheeseburger floating through my head and that's all I can think about until I eat one.

I know that I chose the Weight Watchers  program because I like the point value system.  I can still eat what I want as long as it is in my points. I'm pretty sure that I ate my points and then some.

I started the day off by meeting my Sister-in-law so she could take me up to my other Sister- in-law's so that we could go swimming.  I ate my breakfast of eggs, strawberries and an everything bagel thin with a laughing cow cheese.  It held me over until about 1.  We had so much fun swimming and Hanna was funny in the water for the first time.  She wasn't sure how she felt about it.

I am forcing myself to take more pictures of myself and I actually have one of me in a swimsuit, but I'm not ready to post it.  I keep telling myself that they will be great before pictures.  Someday I will be able to look back on them and say "never again".

Lunch was a small serving of tuna on bread with edamame and a serving (12) of Lay's stacker's.  That didn't hold me over well enough because when "Five Guys" was  brought up my mouth started salivating and I couldn't say no.

I was kind of proud of myself because I didn't eat all of my fries or hamburger.  Sometimes you have to notice the little things.

Finally got home at around 9 and my mom's fridge went out (that was fun).  Spent the rest of the night divvying out food to my Gramma's deep freeze and fridge. She got a repair guy out today and then we had to move everything back in.

Couldn't get my baby to sleep for 45 minutes (her bedtime at home is 7, so she was ornery as ever).  Woke up the next morning at 7 to get ready to go to the Farmers Market in Salt Lake City.  That was so much fun( I totally forgot to take pictures, boo).  Had a VERY small quesadilla that was delish.  It was made with a blue corn tortilla, cheese, black beans, guacamole, and raw onions.  I gobbled that bad boy up.  But I'm serious when I say it was SMALL.

I spent the rest of the day making baby food for my little one.  Bottled baby food has been doing a number on her digestive track.  She's just not use to eating it for every meal.  Finally got her down to bed around 8:20, and then FINALLY got to sit down for dinner where I had barbecue pull chicken on a piece of Asiago Bread form Farmers Market, watermelon, and a superb strawberry salad with poppy seed dressing.

So now I am tired, and the holiday weekend is just starting.......

Q's
If you have kids, have you ever made homemade baby food?
My baby LOVES fresh baby food.  She likes it WAY more than bottled!

DO you like fruit in your salad?  What is your favorite dressing?
I love Ranch dressing, but trying not to have it and branch out.  Poppy seed is a close second, and you can usually find a good low cal sub.

Atta Boy!

How do you reward yourself for a job well done?  I have been thinking about this a lot lately because I, like most people, like to reward myself after I feel like I have accomplished something.  The problem with this is that I have the habit of rewarding myself with food (obviously).  Problem #2 is that the reward system has gone kind of down hill.  It was getting to the point where I felt I needed props for things like: Getting out of bed before 7 or cleaning the house.  Pretty sure that those are what I signed on for when I decided to be a stay at home mom.  How often does your boss reward you when you show up on time for work? Ya, that's what I thought.  And Hanna's reward's tend to come in a smelly diaper change (someone really needs to explain what a "present" really is to this child).

So how do you change your mindset on what is reward worthy and what is not?  I have had to re-evaluate my goals lately and I think the only solution is that you get something when you make something.  I want to celebrate the small things (like a 2.8 pound loss) but I want the actual goal to stand out.  This week I lost sight and rewarded my weight loss with sushi.  I know your thinking that wasn't that bad, but I'm pretty sure Japanese Mayo isn't fat-free:(

Here is my dilemma.  What do I reward myself with that won't break my bank, be food related, and will still keep me motivated?  I'm open for suggestions!

I've gotten a little off track the last couple of days since my weigh in and I need to re-focus.  Today my goal is to track everything I eat with my etools on Weight Watchers.com.  I also  need to eat consistently and not have HOURS in between each meal.  I have a packed day so I will go into it with a positive can-do attitude and do the best that I can do.  I am also hopefully doing some swimming  so some activity points might be earned!
